With the ongoing challenge of employment equality, see how we, at Express Status Professionals, promote fairness, respect and inclusiveness in the workplace.

We all want equal opportunities and fair treatment in the workplace, regardless of race, gender, religion, or personal characteristic. It’s a fundamental right, a principle enshrined in South Africa’s constitution.

A South Africa for all

In South Africa, there are various laws upholding employment equality. They include the Employment Equity Act of 1998 and the Basic Conditions of Employment Act of 1997. These laws address the historical imbalances and discrimination faced by certain groups, particularly black Africans and women, and promote a diverse and inclusive workplace. Employers must implement affirmative action measures to address past discrimination and ensure equal representation in all occupational categories and levels.

The reality of Employment Equality

Despite the legal framework, employment equality is still a challenge in South Africa. There are disparities in the representation of groups in the workplace, particularly with race and gender.

However, affirmative action programmes and increased enforcement of employment equality laws try to address this. South Africa is also seeing an increase in the number of companies and organisations taking proactive steps to promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Nevertheless, true employment equality is still a dream.
