Join Express Employment Professionals in celebrating Human Rights Day on 21 March and learn why we are committed to promoting dignity, equality, and freedom for all. Working with us shows you, like us, believe in ubuntu and value and invest in people.
At Express Employment Professionals we know Human Rights Day on 21 March means so much more than just human rights. Yes, there’s the pain of the apartheid past; yes, there’s still hate speech today – but on this national holiday we want to remind you of the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s ubuntu: forgiveness and acceptance. As he defined it: an authentic individual human being that is part of a larger and more significant relational, communal, societal, environmental and spiritual world. “I am because we are.”
Did you know the term appears in the Epilogue of the Interim Constitution of South Africa in 1993: “There is a need for understanding but not for vengeance, a need for reparation but not for retaliation, a need for ubuntu but not for victimisation.”
So embrace ubuntu in the workplace with us at Express: let’s connect people from all backgrounds with various job opportunities – no prejudice; no holding back on opportunities…
Express has, for years, promoted equal opportunities in workplaces. No woman, youth, or man end up on the sidelines when they work with us. There are more struggles ahead, but this is a win-win worth celebrating.
What Does Human Rights Day Mean?
At Express we want to look past just human rights. That’s a given in the beautiful country’s constitution.
What is not a given, is the acceptance of all; the ubuntu of “I can’t be without you” – and that is what we, at Express, want to celebrate.
Use Human Rights Day to remember the struggle; reflect on the injustices of the past – and, harsh as it is, the present. But join us, at Express, in together holding hands in the ubuntu spirit: without you we can’t reach the heights we know awaits and vice versa.
Whether you are a student, educator, worker, or small business owner, you should ask yourself what type of future you want for your children. Face the inequalities, speak up – but hold on to ubuntu. That’s the only way to build a society that’s truly free and democratic.
