Description

We are seeking a skilled and dependable Tanker Technician with strong electrical experience to join our maintenance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for servicing, diagnosing, and repairing both the mechanical and electrical components of tankers used for fuel, chemical, or bulk liquid transport. This role requires a safety-first mindset, attention to detail, and a hands-on approach to maintaining operational reliability and regulatory compliance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct regular inspection, maintenance, and repair of tanker trucks and trailers.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems, including brakes, suspensions, and hydraulics.
  • Perform diagnostic work and repair on auto electrical systems (lighting, wiring, battery, alternators, sensors, etc.).
  • Ensure tanker systems, such as pumps, valves, and meters, are functioning properly.
  • Conduct leak checks, pressure testing, and other compliance-related inspections.
  • Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and electrical diagrams.
  • Keep accurate maintenance and service records.
  • Work in line with safety and environmental regulations (e.g., ADR, DOT, OSHA, or other relevant standards).
  • Respond to emergency repairs when needed, including field service.
  • Collaborate with other technicians and supervisors to ensure timely completion of jobs.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Relevant vocational training or certification in auto electrical or diesel mechanics.
  • Valid driver’s license Code 14
  • Physically fit and able to work in various conditions (heights, confined spaces, weather).
  • Certification in Auto Electrical or Heavy Vehicle Maintenance
  • Experience with fuel, chemical, or liquid waste tankers
  • Code 14
  • Matric
  • Trade certificate

KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCES:

  • 5 years of experience as a Tanker Technician or Heavy Vehicle Technician.
  • Strong working knowledge of auto electrical systems.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams and use diagnostic tools.
  • Familiarity with tanker equipment (e.g., PTO-driven pumps, overfill protection, vapor recovery systems).
  • Understanding of tanker safety standards and regulations.
  • Welding or fabrication skills (bonus)
  • Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated and driven
