Description
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations, including Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and prepare reports with recommendations for corrective actions.
Conduct risk assessments and implement appropriate safety measures.
Provide safety training and education programs to employees, including induction training for new hires.
Ensure all safety equipment and PPE are available and used correctly.
Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the organization.
Collaborate with management and employees to develop and implement initiatives related to workplace safety.
Educational Requirements:
National Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field
Professional certifications such as NEBOSH International General Certificate or SAMTRAC are highly desirable
Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a safety officer role, preferably within the electric engineering sector.
Experience with projects and initiatives is an advantage.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong knowledge of safety regulations and standards, including OHSA.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and implement effective safety measures.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
Professional Membership:
Registration with professional bodies such as the South African Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (SAIOSH) is advantageous
Additional Requirements:
Valid driver's license.
Willingness to travel to various project sites as needed.
